Maryann Higgins, President/CEO of
CONNECTIONS, Inc., has
extensive experience in the field of Gerontology and Medical Social
Work. She earned a B.A. Degree in Social Work and a Master's Degree
in Counseling. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a
Certified Care Manager. She worked for the State of Florida in
Adult Protective Investigations and Services before she became the
Director of Social Services at Venice Hospital for 14 years. She
started the first hospital-based Geriatric Care Management service
in the state of Florida, proving to be a real pioneer in this field
of practice.
She has taught at the graduate level for Nova
University and was a faculty-presenter for two years at the National
Conference of the American Society on Aging. She is a member of the
National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (GCM)
and is currently President for the Florida Geriatric Care
Managers Association, a chapter of GCM. She is also a member of the
National Association of Social Workers, Sarasota County Aging
Network, National Academy of Certified Care Managers, Venice Area
Chamber of Commerce, and is affiliated with Lifeplans of the Family
Caring Network.
Maryann's strong clinical background in mental
health counseling and therapeutic interventions enables her to
understand and handle people with difficult behaviors, as well as
use her rapport-building skills.
She has an extensive medical background and
liaison with the medical community and specializes in aging,
depression, dementia, substance abuse, and domestic violence.
